Emily Irene VanCamp who initially wanted to become a professional dancer became interested in acting after she met her sister Katie in the making of the film Ladies Room. While studying acting and acting lessons, VanCamp was offered an appearance on a television show in Canada. A few of the television shows she starred in include Are You afraid to be in the Dark? Radio Active and Dice. VanCamp had a career breakthrough after being cast as an actor in the role of Sam Dolan on the WB Horror Mystery show Glory Days. Even though the show was receiving favorable reviews, the show unfortunately had to be pulled after just nine episodes due to its poor ratings. Actually, the 12th of May 1986 born actress had a quick time securing a new part on Everwood as a member of the principal cast members Amy Abbott. Her part in the movie was rewarded with 4 Teen Choice Awards nominations and a Young Artist Award.
